Black and white vs re-colour: Buffalo Bill in a flowery coat

Colour vs re-colour: Buffalo Bill in a flowery coat

A photo of Wild West showman and buffalo hunter Buffalo Bill wearing a surprisingly flowery embroidered coat. This photo was taken in 1889 when he would have been 43 (I think). Apparently he had to have a kind of hunt-off against William Comstock to earn exclusive right to use the name ‘Buffalo Bill’.  He won the buffalo-shooting match by killing 68 bison to Comstock’s 48.

Yuk.

The photo has been expertly re-coloured by History In Color which version do you prefer, the colour or black and white version? You can see both versions below:

  1. Badwater Bill

The color version is better — but I think the only mistake made is that this shirt was silk, and should have had a little sheen to it.
