Oh what I crush I had on Rex Harrison… Here he is photographed with his wife, German actress Lilli Palmer in 1950. I like the way this photo has been composed, the way she’s lost in her own little world and he’s gazing adoringly at her from the background. Having said that he was married six times and had numerous affairs, so perhaps they just caught him in one of the brief moments in which he adored her…? Or is that a little unfair?

Oh, I had a crush on him too when I saw him in The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. He played a sea captain that haunted his cottage… he could haunt me anytime!
haha! I must watch that movie, sounds just my cup of tea!
Love that film
Forgive me because I think I’ll disappoint you both somewhat: A little over two years ago I read a New Yorker’s article about him (and three other Hollywood male icons) saying he was gay (at least bisexual). I really don’t know if it gets to shake the ratio fan / idol because such emotion is not based in bare reality… Maybe he’s adoring the wife dress instead of herself (My comment was inelegant? Sometimes I’m a bad, bad boy…)
LOL that’s one of the reasons you should never meet your screen crushes! Whenever I’ve seen actors in ‘real life’ or in TV interviews the never live up to expectations (and they’re also so much shorter than you expect them to be too – not that height is the most important thing in the world, but still…) You need to be able to suspend the disbelief to fall madly in love with your scree icon, I prefer my Rex Harrison to be a sexy misogynist, just like in My Fair Lady!
No, you don’t disappoint me about Rex, Augustus. I admire the man no matter what his sexuality. And I adore the character that the actor creates… so he’s still sexy to me!
Absolutely!
Kaye, your answer is sensible and truly rare. Congratulations! I’ve stated that such relationship between fan / idol is not based on bare reality. In your case, relies on admiration. If everyone had such discernment, the world would be a much better place indeed. Cheers !!!
I couldn’t agree more Augustus, although I kind of pity the movie star who has to live up to his movie rep in real life relationships! no wonder so many Hollywood marriages fail!
Ah Augustus: you’re making me blush. Thank you for your kind words.
I totally agree!!!
I think you’ll find that Rex was at the least bisexual with a penchant for African-American men.
Really? ha ha, couldn’t be more different from my impression of him based on his character in My Fair Lady! 🙂
