Rudolph Valentino and his dog. Actor and heart-throb Valentino appeared in many films, including Moran of the Lady Letty (1921), which was filmed in a variety of Southern California locations, including Balboa, Anaheim Landing, Catalina, and the Lasky Camp in Santa Ana Canyon. Does anyone know what his dog was called?

A striking photo of Joan Crawford in the 1920s. I love the way the silhouette and shadows really add to the composition of this picture. Isn’t it stunning?

Vintage women’s boxing: late 1800s to 1920s

Vintage women’s boxing: late 1800s to 1920s

I assumed that women’s boxing was a fairly new sport, after all it was only included in the Olympics last year for the first time, but from these photos you can see it was going on (although with varying degrees of inappropriate outfits) since at least the late 1880s. I’m guessing it wasn’t a mainstream(…)

Colour or black and white? 1920s pilot in winter flying gear

I love a good colorized photo, (emphasis on the GOOD). When this process is done well it can completely bring an old photograph alive. I’ve recently discovered the amazing History in Color, which is full of beautifully colorized photos and I had to share this photo with you. Its of pilot William C. Hopson who(…)

The many hats of 1920s criminals

The many hats of 1920s criminals

I found these photos of 1920s criminals absolutely fascinating, partly because I think mug-shots make for really interesting candid photographs, but also because of the variety of different hats worn by the men in these photos. They were all taken in Calgary in 1920. What do you think they were arrested for? Number 6088 definitely(…)

Naked girl a box of rabbit fur, 1920s

Naked girl a box of rabbit fur, 1920s

I’m not entirely sure why there is a naked girl in this box of rabbit fur. Do you think it was a promotional photo, or is she just a girl who likes feeling fur against her naked skin and got snapped in the process..? I prefer to think it’s the second option 🙂

Miss Bobbed Hair, 1925 (and all the other contestants)
