Paris in 1963

Paris in 1963

I love this series of photos. Some of them could have been taken anywhere during the Sixties: the Mary Quant fashions and girls with their heavy eye-makeup and bouffant hair (even on the ballerinas). But then there are some uniquely Parisian photos too: the street scenes, the elderly couple snoozing in the Louve, the stamp(…)

A gorgeous 1960s bikini

Isn’t this a pretty bikini? I’m reveling in the weekend of sunshine we seem to be having (has the  British summer finally arrived I wonder…?) so I thought photos of girls in sunshine and bikinis would be appropriate! Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Fashion sketch: sixties mod shift dress

I thought with all the monochrome sixties shift dresses around at the moment, I’d have a go at designing my own. What do you think..? Here are my other sketches, if you want to take a look 🙂

My top 12 sixties shift dresses: designer vs high-street

My top 12 sixties shift dresses: designer vs high-street

Girl in front of a 1960s window display

Woman with window display photographed by American photographer James Jowers in 1968. How fed up does she look? It looks like she’s been waiting for someone for some time… Source and copyright: George Eastman House Collection: No known copyright restrictions

Vintage advert: 1960s anti-smoking campaign

One of a set of ten government anti-smoking posters from the 1960s. This example focuses on what smokers could afford to buy if they gave up cigarettes. Isn’t this a great campaign? I wish I could find the other posters from this campaign! Source and copyright: The National Archives UK:  No known copyright restrictions

1960s photo: Man in striped shirt showing tattoo

‘Man in striped shirt showing tattoo’ by American photographer James Jowers in 1965. There something about this photo which reminds me of Keith Richards (or is it Ronnie Woods?) from the Rolling Stones. Is it just me? This photo was taken in New York by American photographer James Jowers in 1967. The girl in the foreground looks so fed up – despite having fabulous hair. It looks like she’s waiting for someone. I wonder how long she stood there for…? Source and copyright: George Eastman House Collection: No known copyright restrictions

Waverly Place, 1968

Photo of Waverly Place in 1968 by American photographer James Jowers from the George Eastman House Collection. Do you think that’s an enormous box of heart-shaped chocolates? I can’t really think what else it could be! What do you think? Source and copyright: George Eastman House collection: No known copyright restrictions
