I don’t know very much about these fashions, except that they were captioned ‘Hermes Dresses, 1952’. I love the idea of all the detail being drawn on, although I’m not sure they would look quite this fabulous in real life rather than on super-glamorous 50s models!
Does anyone know anything about the back-story to these pictures?

These images appear to be from Life magazine. I wonder if there is some archive somewhere with an article attached. Though I have my doubts these are all individually hand-painted. The “reverse” print dress is identical stroke to stroke, so I am wondering if it is some sort of short-run printing or even a stencil? Quite an amazing concept, though. Makes one want to paint ones clothes to replicate.
No matter how they were made, I would sure love to have or know HOW to get this effect!
