If I had to make a movie of a Thomas Hardy novel,I would definitely choose ‘Far From the Madding Crowd‘, especially since I had to study ‘Tess of the D’Urbervilles‘ at school and it was incredibly depressing. Luckily for me, I don’t have to make the movie myself to enjoy a good slice of on-screen period drama as a new version starring Carey Mulligan is about to be released on DVD!
I totally missed this when it was at the cinema, but I’ll definitely be catching up now! If you don’t know the story, the basic plot is a love story about the spirited Bathsheba Everdene (Mulligan) and the three men she might fall in love with: there’s Gabriel Oak (handsome but steady shepherd), William Boldwood (handsome repressed older gentleman farmer) and Sergeant Troy (handsome but reckless and dangerous). I won’t tell you which of these handsome devils ends up with Bathsheba just in case you’re planning to watch the film but unusually for Hardy it does end happily (although there are some strange and disturbing things which happen in the meantime).
Anyway, I’m here to share some of the gorgeous costume designs. Which of these dodo you prefer? Me? I’d choose a man in uniform any day! Oh and if you’d like to take a look at the movie there’s a clip below.
Watch it now on Digital HD. On Blu-Ray and DVD August 4th. US: http://bit.ly/MaddingBluray

I loved this movie so much! Bathsheba is a frustrating yet somehow likable character. I love the red dress!
The red dress IS amazing isn’t it 🙂
Check out the sixties version with the gorgeous Julie Christie. However, it is so depressing.
I hate this movie.
